# Production files

For design, treatment planning and CAD design jobs, production files are only needed once the client has confirmed the treatment plan will go ahead.

We work this way because many design tools charge you for every file you export. You shouldn't pay to export files for a plan the patient never accepts.

## When to upload them

1. You deliver your work and the client approves it.
2. The client confirms treatment.
3. **Mark Production Files Ready** appears on the job. Upload your production files, or select ones already on the job.

You can include production files with your first delivery if you want, but you don't have to.

## Versions

Each upload creates a numbered version of the job's production files. When you upload a new version, you can keep files from the previous one without uploading them again. The newest version is the current one, and earlier versions stay in the job's history.

## How this affects your payment

For these job types, your payment is released after you mark production files ready: when the client marks the job complete, or automatically 5 working days later. See [When you get paid](/help/provider-guide/when-you-get-paid.md).
