# Disputes

A dispute is a formal disagreement about a job's payment. Clients can raise one on a job that's in progress or has been delivered. On a first delivery, the client has to request a revision before they can raise a dispute.

## What happens to the job

The job goes **On Hold** and no work or payment moves until the dispute is resolved. You'll find it under **Disputes** in the sidebar.

## How it's resolved

The CaseBench team reviews the job and decides:

* **In your favor:** the job returns to where it was and carries on as normal, including your payment.
* **In the client's favor:** the client is refunded and the job is cancelled.

If the client disputes the charge with their bank instead, the bank's decision applies.

## How to protect yourself

Keep every message, question and file on CaseBench. The job's history is what our team reviews. See [Keeping communication on CaseBench](/help/provider-guide/keeping-communication-on-casebench.md).

If you have questions about a dispute, email <hello@casebench.io>.
