# Creating a case and adding jobs

A **case** holds a patient's files and clinical details. **Jobs** are the individual pieces of work inside it, such as a treatment plan or a manufacturing order. Every job belongs to a case, so start with the case.

You need a payment method on file before you can create a case. If you don't have one, you'll be asked to set up billing first.

## Create a case

How to create and submit a clear aligner case
{% endembed %}

1. Click **Cases** in the left sidebar, then **New case** at the top right.
2. Select the product, for example clear aligners.
3. Set the date you need the case completed by.
4. Enter the patient's initials and your reference ID. Never use the patient's full name.
5. Add relevant clinical history: concerns and dental health details that will help whoever plans the case.
6. Choose the arch (upper, lower or both), the complexity, and the case type: new treatment, relapse or refinement.
7. Add clinical indications, case notes and treatment goals.
8. Upload protocols or instructions, the upper and lower jaw scans, and any x-rays or clinical photos.
9. Confirm or edit the shipping address. To save time on future cases, set a default address in your organization settings.
10. Click **Save Draft**. This saves the case and uploads your files without submitting it.
11. Review the case. Use **View 3D** to check your scans.
12. Click **Submit case**.

| **Specialists / Providers** | Pick a service from one of your hired providers |
| **Services Catalogue** | Reuse a service you've saved or used recently |
| **Manufacturing** | Send the case for manufacturing |
| **Post to Marketplace** | Let any approved provider respond. See [Posting an open job request](/help/client-guide/posting-an-open-job-request.md) |

3. Create the job, review the payment details and pay. See [What you pay and when](/help/client-guide/what-you-pay-and-when.md).

You can follow the job's progress on its page: deliveries, files, activity and, at the end, your review.

## Messaging the right person

* **Messages on a job** go to the provider working on it.
* **Messages on the case** go to the invited clinician, if a clinician submitted it.

Use the right one so your message reaches the right person.
